New PBM Bills Affecting Pharmacies

There have been several recent laws and bills affecting pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). One example is the Pharmacy Benefit Manager Transparency Act of 2022, which was introduced in the U.S. Senate and aims to increase transparency and accountability in the PBM industry [1]. Another recent development is the enactment of Public Chapter 569 in Tennessee, which is considered one of the most progressive PBM reform bills in the country [2]. These new laws and bills have the potential to impact pharmacies and PBMs in various ways, such as requiring PBMs to disclose more information about their pricing practices and limiting their ability to engage in certain business practices. Pharmacists should stay informed about these developments and be prepared to adapt to any changes that may arise. Sources:
